Every year, the All India Council for Technical Education conducts the Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) throughout India for admission to M. Pharm programmes. If you are planning to appear for the GPAT exam this year, you should be well-informed about GPAT eligibility and benefits. Here’s a look at some important things to know.
Bachelor’s degree holders in Pharmacy (4 years after 10+2, including lateral entry candidates) OR those who are in the final year of B. Pharmacy course are eligible to appear for the GPAT exam.
The GPAT exam is organized in various locations across India. The GPAT Examination Office reserves the right to add/change/amend the examination cities/centres at any point of time up to the time of actual conduct of examination.
As of now, the age of candidates has not been specified as one of the GPAT eligibility criteria by the conducting body.
Most of the M. Pharm colleges require a valid GPAT score for you to be eligible to get admission to their Master’s program in Pharmacy. GPAT provides a great opportunity for deserving candidates to gain scholarships\fellowships. Candidates who pass this entrance exam are granted a scholarship when they join for M. Pharm.
Admission to postgraduate programmes with MHRD and other government scholarships/assistantships in pharmacy colleges/institutes is open to those who clear the GPAT exam. Candidates who qualify in the GPAT examination and have four years Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy are eligible for admission to Master/Doctoral programmes in Pharmacy. To qualify for the scholarship, the candidate must secure admission to one such postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution.
However, candidates with Master’s degree in Pharmacy may seek admission to relevant Ph.D. programmes with scholarship/assistantship, without appearing in the GPAT exam. In some institutions, GPAT qualification is one of the mandatory criteria for getting admission to postgraduate programmes, with no exception to this rule for self-financing students. GPAT qualified candidates are also eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories and CSIR/UGC sponsored projects.
