Stats about GATE 2016:

Did you know that according to statistics from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), a total of 9,71,831 candidates had registered for GATE 2016 & 8,18,850 candidates have appeared for the examination. Out of total registered candidates, 5,76,611 of the male & 2,42,207 of the female registrants appeared for the examination. In terms of number of candidates appeared, the 5 largest papers are:
1.Electronics & Communication Engineering
2.Mechanical Engineering
3.Computer Science & Information Technology
4.Electrical Engineering
5.Civil Engineering

About GATE:

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is considered as one of the toughest all-India examinations, that checks the students’ knowledge of undergraduate subjects related to the stream of engineering and science. It is a computer-based standardised test that is organised by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) and 7 Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT’s). The GATE score is vital for the aspirants as it helps them get admission into post-graduate courses in streams like engineering and technology etc. GATE score is also a pre – requisite for applying to most of the major Public Sector Undertakings. The competitive exam is hard to crack but with persistent hard work and determination, many students ace the exam every year to get a seat in the best colleges & PSUs of the country.

The Exam Pattern:

The exam is of 3 hours duration and consists of 65 questions. GATE is of 100 marks and the questions comprise both multiple choice questions and numerical answer type questions. Currently, GATE is held for 23 streams. Some of them are Mechanical, Electronics & Communication, Electrical, Computer Science & IT, Civil, Instrumentation etc.
