GATE Eligibility for 2014
The GATE 2014 is going to be a record breaking exam for the fact that over 15 lakh students are expected to appear for it. This marks a 25% increase from the number in 2013. The primary concern before appearing for this examination is to make sure that you fulfill the GATE eligibility for 2014. Succeeding can earn you big rewards, and therefore the first step is to get all the initial planning done right. Aspirants will fulfill GATE eligibility for 2014 if:
- They hold a bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture or are in the final year of such a course.
- They hold master’s degree in any of the branches of Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Applications or Science, or are in the final year of these or equivalent courses.
- They are in the second year or at a higher stage of a four-year integrated master’s degree course in engineering or technology.
- They are in the fourth year or at a higher stage of a five-year integrated master’s degree course or dual degree course in engineering or technology.
- They hold qualifications granted by examination conducting professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE, equivalent to BTech/BE.
- They have completed Section A or the equivalent of such a professional course.
Facts about the GATE Exam
The GATE is regulated and the results declared by a sole authority, known as the GATE committee. It is conducted through a constitution of eight zones in Delhi, Roorkee, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Guwahati, Bangalore, Bombay and Madras. It is a three-hour examination and, barring a few papers, it has usually been conducted in the offline mode.
Starting 2014, the GATE is going online for all the 21 streams.
The results are often declared one month after the exam is conducted. The score cards, which are issued to all candidates, show the total marks secured and other important particulars, such as the all-India rank and the cut-off scores. The GATE score is valid for two years.
In 2012, out of a little over 12 lakh students registered for the GATE, of which only 82% actually appeared for the exam. Only around 14% qualified the exam. Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) was the most opted-for stream, with more than a fourth of the candidates opting for it.
The GATE has been traditionally known as a tricky one, trying the aspirants’ on their grast of the fundamental of science and technology, using innovative methods and techniques.
