Real Life Application Finding out stress in any component is very important to make sure that the component do not get failed. Anywhere in day to day life where ever stress in the component reaches failure stress then the particular component fails.

Explanation When multiple loads are acting on a prismatic bar on different parts of the length, to experience stress the bar must be in equilibrium. Hence, net force must be equal to zero. Now when the whole body is in equilibrium then individual parts of length are also in equilibrium. We have to apply equilibrium equations on every part and find out unknown forces which are actually causing stress. Those stresses are equal to that force divided by area of cross section. Also the overall elongation is equal to algebraic sum of elongations of all the individual parts.
